Hey guys: will be back later today--wanted you all to please, please Tivo this if you can....thanks Dennis from Reelblack!
Turner Classic Movies' UNDERGROUND series shine the spotlight on two long neglected musical comedies from the blaxploitation era. At 2am, they will air DARKTOWN STRUTTERS (1975), which is filmmaker Mike D's favorite guilty pleasure movie from the 70s. At 3:45 they will screen THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY, a miserable film which featured Donna Summer in her acting debut, and won an Oscar for the disco classic "Last Dance." Between the two films, they will screen a rare featurette starring Redd Foxx about the making of his feature film, NORMAN IS THAT YOU (1976).
From IW: Here is the trailer for "Norman Is That You?" with Redd Foxx and Pearl Bailey. How do you think this movie would fly if it were made today?

My DVR is already set! I love their Underground series! A couple of weeks ago they showed Putney Swope which blew my mind...seriously!
Believe it or not-I'll probably be up at the time that Dark Town Strutters is on the air. Thanks for the heads up. I don't recall ever seeing this film back in the day. I'm sure it will take me back to someplace-I just hope that it is a good space!
I don't own a tv anymore. I'll miss it. I love me some Redd Foxx and I think the film would be made, Black Comedy usually does well.
Michael Warren was sp fine. Jessica Alba is his son's baby mama. lol
BAH HUMBUG! I missed seeing this post. I'll add it to my queue with hopes that it might show up again.
As far as, Norman...Is that you? If it could be done with a black cast, I would love to see it. I don't know if Hollywood would do that though.
Dangit, missed my chance to DVR it. Another one for the Q.
Norman Is that you could definitely be made today. I could see Hollywood making this. Martin Lawrence as the over-reactive father. Maybe spin it for him to visit his son in college since he's not that old. Chuck & Larry worked with the same homophobic jokes, so why not?
On a different note: I finally finished S1 of Z Rock. Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation. Now I wish I could find S2. Dina & Popper were a riot.
Life is Hot in Cracktown is next up on my ViewQ
@blaqbird: i really, really want to see putney swope. every time it comes on, i miss it
@ms. lady: did u see it? i didn't love it...
@sdg: no tv? what tha...? lol
i had the biggest crush on michael warren when i was a kid...i thought he was so damn fine, even after i found out he wore a hairpeice, lol w
hen i first found out cash warren was his son, i was surprised, but he is fine like his daddy
@wanda: the thing about tcm is that if you don't watch it, they may never show it again, or may months or years later
i do wonder how it might fly today, it was sooooo un pc
@reelwhore: trust, you didn't miss much--it sounded a lot better than it actually was...MUCH better
i'm really glad you liked z-rock...i hate when i recommend something and then the person doesn't like it or get it, lol
was there a second season to z-rock? i didn't know that...i must see it--the series is so original and funny to me!
Z Rock was so much fun. According to IMDB there was a S2, but no DVD details for it.
Speaking of recommendations. I finally watched Life is Hot in Cracktown. I didn't love it, but it wasn't terrible. Good acting, there were times when I'd almost forget Kerry was a woman. It was just more depressing than I expected. Whereas Precious was depressing, but you feel there's been growth. LiHiC leaves you w/ little to no hope for these xters. Being Xmas, maybe I'm just primed for that shining star at the end.
@reelwhore: i really liked cracktown, and almost wholly because of kerri's storyline--i thought the others were subpar. it is a testament to an interesting film that makes you forget how very womanly and feminine kerri is, and to believe her as a transsexual.
