From Black Talent News:
America wasn't laughing this weekend. "Who's Your Caddy?" the much anticipated first film from Our Stories Films (a partnership between BET founder Bob Johnson and the Weinstein Bros. and run by Tracey Edmonds to produce urban family comedies that tell 'our' stories) opened this weekend with an estimated $2.9 million, averaging only $2,846 from 1,019 screens. No one should be surprised that in addition to the poor box office showing, the film's insultingly stereotypical content and creative team (a white writer/director) have come under fire.

Question: How does Tracey Edmonds start with Soul Food and hit rock bottom with this foolishness? Is it the company she now keeps (Eddie'you are the father'Murphy)? Or, is this the real Tracey that we never knew. And she needs to change the name of her production company. This is not Our Story!!!
Our community needs to take a stand, invest in production studios, and form a real Black Hollywood. Maybe that's naively put and others feel it's easier said than done, but if 'Titanic' was filmed using free opensource linux based software, I'd say it's completely accomplishable with a little intent and follow-through.
I tired of this sh--- truly.

We really have reached the point where this cannot go on in the same fashion. If Hollywood refuses to respect Black culture, cool.
Let's do our own thing and stop making money for them. It time to reinvest in black commodities for real.
Sleepwalking = not good.
@ coloredgirls: I've never heard Tracey really have a strong opinion about anything, much less an ordinary opinion or something indicative of a personality. She seems to be somewhat of a chameleon, just absorbing whatever's going on aound her. I don't know, she could be basing her decisions on what others are telling her.
@PZ Yeah, it definitely isn't easy, take it from one who knows. The good news is people don't seem to be that apathetic anymore (ie the Who's Your Caddy & Hot Ghetto Mess debacles). That seems to be a great step in the right direction.
did they actually think this movie was gonna succeed? note to ya'll out there: if there's a movie with finess mitchell or faizon love in it then do urself a favour and skip it!
@A.J. sad but true, cause after Faizon as "Big Worm" in Friday, I still try to keep the faith after all these years...
I should have known Bob Johnson was behind this.
I'm glad this trite, warmed-over, coonery failed. Like we really need to see this "story" again.
We need to be getting out to see Talk To Me.

@ Yobachi: Warmed over coonery! haha! I have to use that one.
Be my guest :)
Even if we don't start our on Bl-ollywood the least we can do is $top spending money on F%#ery!!
Yobachi - i haven't seen Talk 2 Me, yet. But as a native Washingtonian I had to do a Post on my man Petey Green! Glad he's getting some media attention:-)
Bl-ollywood. I like that too!
Listen all Tracey Edmonds and her Family are very RACIST towards Black people like us, they have always been. The mother Jackie McQuarn raised them in a white area and taught them to use their own people to benefit. I know people who have worked for her and say that her and her brother (Michael McQuarn) sit in their offices and laugh and talk stuff about our people! Soul Food was just a lucky come up for this RACIST family not to include Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.
These people even screw their own at The Edmonds Tower....So very SAD this woman is going from one RICH man to another on the advise of her Mother and Brother.
Wow how crappy....we should forward this article to everyone we know...I will never see another movie she makes!
