Countdown To American Gangster....

Saw a screener of "American Gangster" today. I don't really want to review and spoil it for folks, (I'll post my thoughts later) but I will give a few odd and end tidbits....

-Scary hair everywhere, from RZA's receding lopsided fro, to Russell Crowe's partner's Hall and Oates shag, to the worst parted wig and fake mustache in movie history on Joe Morton.

-Common plays T.I.'s father (?!)

-Somebody gets their ass whipped with a piano (don't ask).

-"Across 110th Street" is still the jam.

-Roger Guenveur Smith's eyes are actually open and alert looking.

-Chiwetel Ejiofor is starting to look miiiighty fine.

That is all.

this is a picture of the real frank lucas...a bit of a stretch from denzel, yes?

@IW…I’m sorry but I’m going to need you to give me a little bit more info. I for one am tired of supporting films simply because the cast is black. You can at least give a sistha a heads up to whether or not I need to wait for the DVD. Oops! Wait a minute…how many fine brothers in this flick? (in my best Rosanna Rosanna Danna voice) Never mind….*dialing 777-FILM.

at first i thought you were serious, girl! the movie is a bit long, but denzel's "oh my f'n God" sizzle is worth seeing by itself...i cannot believe how sexy he is in this movie! he even made common and idris completely invisible to me, quite a feat.

I could have done without Russell Crowe's character's story line. Like The Godfather or Scarface, Lucas was a brilliant guy who didn't have a chance and made his way outside the system. Why add the police story; why not just show how lucas came up and have a Black anti-hero who flies too close to the sun like the cat in Goodfellas? I digress. T.I. wasn't bad and Chewitel is always fiiiiiiiiiine!!!

I know!!! That's the main problem with this movie; from beginning to end I was completely rooting for the "bad guy" while completely wishing that the "good guy" would go the f__k down and go away.

Russell's character was relentless and was completely focused on taking away and tearing down every single thing in this man's life--including his family. He left shards, smoke and ruins, and then had the nerve to turn around and be his defense attorney?

Makes you wonder about Frank Lucas too on that move...

And oh YES, Chewitel...

IW, you thought I was serious?
Please...With all these countless brothers all up and thru,I could watch this movie without any audio, and be happy.
Don't know when I'll get this opportunity again.
Not like the Ocean woman who get to see their George's and Brad's every other year.

Hafta listen to the audio...Denzel's got that silky choclate milk sexy voice down to a fine art...
