Never got into those plays or the movies. Do brothas really still have to dress up like women to get laughs? Plus I though Martin and Eddie had that market cornered. I won't be watching, but go ahead and get your paper Tyler P.

Madea is officially a brand name now. Don't be surprised when the Madea action figures go on sale this coming holiday season.

Co-sign with Darkbrotha. Although I'm not a Tyler Perry fan. I do give him props. I just wish we had someone who could also make very artistic & very well acted & very well written films, black themed films that don't fall under a message film, comedy, or urban crime film.

Not that anything are wrong with those type films (If they are done well), but I just would like to see more well more artistic & very well acted & very well written Black themed films.

But hey it's Hollywood, where brith of a nation is still touted as one of the greatest films of all time. Go Figure ?

Wow...what's next Madea lunch boxes and backbacks? But I'm w/Marvelous, I ain't mad at him.

I'm with Darkside. The comedy-message-gangsta drama is getting old. I think that was part of the reason why people wanted to see "Dreamgirls" so bad. It wasn't any of those things and there was hope, HOPE that it wouldn't be crap.

There's not enough variety in black entertainment. That just irks me.

Hmmm Can I say disgusted... yep I can.. I'm disgusted. I like T.P. but as an academic, I just cannot manage to allow myself to wallow in the repeated use of stereotypes, even if it allows for a lesson in the end. More than that, I cannot for the life of me understand why, in T.P.'s book, a man is the cause and cure for every issue a woman has. Why for instance does Jill Scott's character lose weight because of a man and not because the extra weight is killing her or heyell even just personally embarrassing... but enough I'll go on all day. I just have to ask why put this stuff in cartoon form because let's be real it maybe intended for adults but it draws children. (why they're watching the stuff period is a whole nother conversation).

Now I know.

I love Madea. I wanna be just like her when I grow up.

A Madea cartoon sounds . . . like I won't be watching. Not only that but, I agree with thechocl8diaries, the House of Payne is so . . .yuck and not funny. Since, I don't want to sound too hateful.
Congrats to Tyler on making his money.

@bygbaby: I agree--they'll have to water this one all the way down...

@darkbrotha: even tho TP is not exactly my cup of tea, it's good to see a Black man making moves in Hollywood, and to me he is not a complete sellout.

@Qadree: lol! It's not too far fetched tho--scary.

@Ms. M. agreed, girl.

Invisible Woman said...

@chocl8t: I take it you like "House Of Payne"? haha!

@darkside: you said that perfectly...99% of Black film boils down to that, yes.

@aj: why can I easily see the lunch boxes happening? The product brand marketing is just around the corner.

@TBA: cha cha cha ching ching!

Invisible Woman said...

@the black snob: he did sum that up well, didn't he? I might have to post about that.

@Hi ma'at: wow. you make an excellent point; I don't know why I didn't think of that before. You are SO on point with that--the womwn are always a mess until they have a good relationship with a man...I smell a new post...

@keala I can't lie--I think Madea is hilarious

@trueurbanqueen: I've never seen House Of Payne believe it or not. Don't think I'll be watching the cartoon either.

Madea is hilarious but enough already. Geez!

Invisible Woman said...

@danielle: I wrote about that today. I try to keep it positive with him, but it's starting to wear thin.

YBW said...

Lol let me know when you make it lol so I can come throw in my two cents... heyell if it's good I might put in a whole dollar.

Hey, only now did I see that comment about me at the end of the item. I guess this proves what I've suspected, that Perry is indeed.... SATAN!

Invisible Woman said...

@maat: I guess you saw my post yeaterday :-)

@sergio: Satan? Is it really that bad Sergio? haha!

Dwacon said...

Just remember, it was Uncle Milty (Milton Berle) who started the man in a dress comedy...

Invisible Woman said...

Hi Dwacon--okay? Folks need to remember that it wasn't us who started that ish---Milty made a gang of dough from that as well.
