Old School Music Fridays

I am doing an old school music meme with some other bloggers...of course mine will always feature songs from Black Cinema.

First up is a live performance of Bobby Womack (who had definitely seen better days) doing the blackploitation classic "Across 110th Street". His voice is still tight, tho.

Here is a clip from the original movie, for those who think the song was from "Jackie Brown". Can you believe Anthony Quinn was in this? He was about 80 years old beating up every Negro in Harlem....

What a neat spin on it. I love me some Bobby Womack, and I didn't even notice this song in Jackie Brown.

Bobby Womack...wow I haven't heard that name in years. Great pick. of course my favorite Womack song is "If you think you're lonely now"!
Old school at it's best!

I remember my parents listening to Bobby while playing Bid Whist or Gin in the kitchen on Saturdays.

@MGV and Ms. M: I thought it was important for folks to know this was a "Black" song. I know Jackie Brown was an homage to blackploitation, but I felt that it took too many liberties.

@lisa: I registered before I wrote you--it still didn't work :-(

@ Regina: I love a real Black man's voice; Womack, Barry, Al Green, Otis Redding---can never be duplicated, only imitated...

@Cassandra: me too!
