Old School Music Friday...

This week's meme is "Remakes", though this version is a kinda mangled one. It is from the film "A Low Down Dirty Shame" with Keenan Wayans and Jada Pinkett, which might be better off left forgotten, just like this so-called remake and it's $56 dollar video. Some classic songs should just be left alone:

I used to see those two chicks around...they were an unlikely and odd duo. I always wondered if they were friends first, or someone put them together for the group...

There first album was great, it was a classic that many people slept on. Not the fast songs, but the slow pieces like Love Me Today.

I've seen this movie maybe once.

How's everything going? Sorry, I haven't been around much, but hopefully I got my priorities back in place. I hope to be a full time blogger again.

Is there a category of black campy films? If so, LDDS has to make the top ten! I luv this movie cuz it was so bad!

You forgot to mention... $50 of the $56 dollar video budget went to the hair dresser (yes, I meant hair DRESSER) would put all those gelled-up ringlets in tall sistagirl's head!

tee hee hee...I loved A Low Down Dirty Shame...it was so bad, it was good (and I normally don't do them Wayans boys)...

I don't necessarily like this song, but I loved Zhane...that first album (only album?) was the bomb!

I am torn between Evelyn's version or Zhane... "Shame" is a classic!!

Happy OSF! This is the second week in a row that I'm reminded about never watching this movie in my life. I guess the universe is hinting I should see this dayum comdey after all....

I went with the Stephanie Mills, Prince and Alicia Keyes tri-fecta for my OSF meme this week!

peace, Villager

Happy OSF (on Saturday). I remember Zhane. Never could figure out how to pronounce it! I haven't seen this movie in years. It was one of those so bad its good movies.

Evelyn Champagne King's version of this song is far superior in my opinion. They tried though.

This was defintely a cover that didnt need to be made.

I thought these ladies went to Temple together in Philly. Doesn't mean they were actually friends, but I'm pretty sure they took the baldheaded chick plunge together.

@MGV: I used to play their first CD constantly---I thought it was such a shame that most didn't know about their beautiful slow songs.

@40-tude: your comment almost made me almost spit out my wheatgrass...LOL! But it's probably true!

@ms. m: yeah, compared to some of the other Wayans atrocities, it was watchable. Zhane did make a 2nd album, but it was nowhere near the genius of the 1st.

@cassandra: I'm glad you're torn, cause it's no contest with me. Evelyn tore that one up!

@Villager: hey there :-) Trust me, you're not missing much...really liked your OSF.

@dp: I really don't think they should have bothered to fool with such an icononic song, but it's not the first classic to be mangled, and it won't be the last.

@thembi: now that would make sense that they went to college together...they probably learned a lot from each other

Zhane for me is like Miss Jenkins. Nobody better say nothing bad about them or I gets to fighting! LOL! But I would agree. This didn't NEED to be remade but they didn't alright on it. Nothing to write home about.

Their first album (they had two) was indeed a classic. Every single song was (is) a winner. I think they made an excellent duo. They both have solo careers today.

I hated this remake. They could have left the original alone! The movie was crap. But I actually liked the first album, and didn't know they had a second one!

@vivrant: you are funny! but I feel the same way about that first one too. I did not know they went solo...

@regina: well, why don't you tell us how you really feel? lol!
