OK, I've broken my promise more than once to start blogging regularly again, but believe me (please!) it's coming back very soon. I had to show love to my old school music fam tho--this week's meme is favorite female singer. I don't know why, but almost all of my favorite singers are men (hmmm, whassup with that?), and two of the five of my favorite female singers are not old school--Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. The other three are Nina Simone, Chaka Khan, and Roberta Flack, and I have always believed that Roberta was a genius since I was a little girl---my mother played her all the time. This song has also been used in several films, both Black and non-black. It is a classic in every way:

Roberta has something magical about her...this song makes me cry everytime I hear it!
Good to see you back (?)...tee hee hee...
All my favorite singers are men too. I dont know what it is but the tone of a man speaks to me more as a whole... unless its a song that is talking about no good men...lol
But if I had to pick a favorite female artist it would hands down have to be Lauryn Hill or Whitney Houston. Shame that both of them need to get their ish together so they can come back out strong... but i could listen to their music over and over again
Oh Man! She sings like an angel. Well, well, well. Look who's back. NOT! LOL
Really, really love your picks this week!
SjP
very nice and calm, a great way to end the work week
BTW-hey sis I think you left this OSF
blog off the list

Just beautiful.
I had the spotlight on Erykah today.
Have a great weekend.

Roberta flack is a genius, she's a songwriter and that takes a lot of talent. I know Beyonce is a songwriter to, but Roberta is timeless, ingenious, and deep.
Roberta is a force to reckon with! Happy OSF (I'm still catching up on my comments). :-)
A beautiful choice! Her voice does make you want to cry...
It just doesn't get any better than Roberta Flack. She is just sheer perfection in all aspects of her music.
Excellent!
What a splendid clip.
@ ALL: Thanks everybody so much for coming by---I love to see that folks love Roberta as much as I do!
@that girl boo: I did have "There Already" on the list...is the link wrong? Let me know :-)
