PROSECUTORS WANT SNIPES IN JAIL FOR 3 YEARS: U.S. recommends 36 month sentence and $5 million fine in tax case.
U.S. prosecutors have recommended that Wesley Snipes serve a maximum three-year prison sentence and pay a $5 million fine for failing to file his income taxes, according to a tax-season court filing.
U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill of Florida says his goal is to deter other potential tax dodgers by making an example of Snipes, who after years of "brazen defiance" of U.S. tax laws cheated the government of $41 million.
"This case cries out for the statutory maximum term of imprisonment, as well as a substantial fine, because of the seriousness of defendant Snipes' crimes and because of the singular opportunity this case presents to deter tax crime nationwide," O'Neill wrote.
Snipes was convicted in February on three misdemeanor counts of willfully failing to file federal tax returns for 1999-2001. Each count comes with a maximum sentence of one year.
The actor was acquitted on two felony charges of filing false claims and fraud in seeking millions of dollars of refunds in other tax years.

What did Barretta say? Don't do teh crime if you can't do the time. Crying racism for tax evasion? Knee-grow pelase.
I saw his wack a** running around bowing to people like he's Asian. He better take his behind into that court room and bow before the judge and commence to beggin', old trifflin' thang.
Even if he had asked for extensions, the least he could've done was filed the darn taxes.
You would think with all that money he would have hire a good team around him to take care of filing those pescky little taxes.
I not sure if if 'Blade' will fare well in the pen.
It still smacks of victimisation to me, I am sure there are other/white examples they could have found...
I really do not see the big deal in paying the stupid taxes! Here in Barbados they have a road tax, and the road could definitely be in better shape, so where do the taxes really go?
Blade sending taxes for Bush to do a last Surge before he demits office? Hell no!
Free Wesley, he needs to brush up on his capoeira kata in case they throw him in.
Privately, I'd rather he quietly head for Mexico or wherever...
Didn't he learn anything from Ronald Isley? Pay your taxes! It's just that simple!
"The actor was acquitted on ..."
Is he, still?
HaHaHa! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!
Ok sorry, that was childish...
hahaha...
@danielle: Wesley probabbly thought he was above it all knowing him.
@shelia: I know those tired asian moves...he might be bending over in a different way if he goes to jail, haha!
@debo:when you make 10 million you can't give up 2? Just greedy, if you ask me. Not to mention stupid.
@ian: he did try to escape to Africa when his trouble first started, but the US wasn't having it.
@madame z:you know what the sad part is? It is that simple!
@TBA--he was aquitted on the felony charges that required mandatory jail time, but not cleared of the misdemeanors.
@regina-sorry, but I feel the same way you do--if it's childish, sue me, haha
