Today In B'Days...

Ving Rhames is 49.

Ving Rhames has come a loooong way since "Pulp Fiction". He is one of the most manly actors around, but here is a clip of him far removed from his Stacy Adams pimp daddy image. It is from a movie me and my best gay laugh about all the time, "Holiday Heart" with Alfre Woodard. Worst. Transvestite. Ever.

Most definitely the most worse looking LOLOL I like what the character said in the film though in regards to being 'out'. He said something to the effect of, "In my day, we didn't have parades" or something. LOL. Ving did a good job; the movie was okay. Love Alfre Woodard. Happy BDay Ving! :)

Happy Birthday and all that... but really? He got in drag? Really? Why? I understand perfecting your craft and going outside the box. But really?

No worries though... Great actor. keep working... keep doing your thing...

You've been missed IW.

@madame z: You know, he did do a wonderful job of acting in this film, I just found it hard to get past that look. Being from NY, LA and San Francisco, I know Ving wouldn't get two steps in the real female impersonation world, lol!

@ut: awwww, I didn't know you cared :-) Seriously, it is always nice to have you around; I've been on your spot, but just kinda silent these days...

As far as Ving, at least he is commfortable enough in who he is to try something different. I guess that's a good thing.

Happy Birthday Ving!

I saw this Holiday Heart movie and I think I sat there the whole time with a dazed and confused look on my face...I still don't understand why, but whatever...

Happy Birtday to Ving. I really like him as an actor and think he's talented.

I happened to catch him on an old ep of Miami Vice when he was very young, had hair and Garcelle played his kid sister.

His Tranny game wasn't that tight, but he did alright in the film.

This film displayed Ving in Raw form. It is a shame that he only gets to play second string or third string quaterback in major films. I like the fact that Mission impossible cant work without him, but I would like to see more Ving.

The Transsexual part was not working for me, but a great job he did.

HAPPPY B-DAY Brother Ving

OMG! Holiday Heart had me on. the. floor.

I was like WTF is this?

He did good, but damn that was worse than Wesley in Too Wong Foo!

@Ms M. and Wanda: Those were my exact same emotions, lol :-)

@danielle: who is Garcelle? what did he look like with hair?

@kem: I think he should be working at LEAST half as much as Samuel Jackson...as a matter of fact, there were a few of Samuel's roles that I would have rather seen Ving do.

I absolutely LOOOOVED Ving Rhames in "Rosewood" in the scene when he was riding the horse!

YESSSS...he is one handsome man.

The New York shock jock, Wendy Williams, has an expression: "how you doin'??"

She uses it whenever she's around a brotha who is not out of the closet and feels that no one suspects.

Rock Hudson was one of the most MANLY actors around....

Ummmm... happy birthday Ving, baby!
Come out, come out, where ever you are... *LOL*

I guess you did not see I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry. Ving Played a character who surprisingly comes out of the closet. Although I do not think that he is Gay in real life. I think seeing it in this format is hilarious and is worth your rental. So fill netflix or block buster list and add that one to it. It is worth the laugh.

I just stumbled on Ving on cable... in the David Mamet movie "Homicide." The kind of thug role every black actor has to play at some point. It was a surprise... I hadn't remembered he was in that.

Invisible Woman said...

@bygbaby: I agree. Ving looked a mess, but his character was very sympathetic...I think he did well.

@lisa: Sorry, but I think Ving is 100% manly pimp playa (as a matter of fact, from what I've heard, he may love women TOO much). I even had him featured as one of my crushes in a post last year.

That's probably why he had no problem playing that part, and it says a lot about him not being afraid to stretch out in his acting.

@kem: thanks for making that suggestion :-)

@UBM: so I see you haven't seen much of his straight to DVD fare. Homicide was his "There Will Be Blood" compared to those horrors, haha :-)

Invisible Woman has it right there. Ving is comfortable with what he does. So lay off guys, he is not the enemy it is those gay dude out here in reality hiding in the closet that has you pissed.

If they would just let go and get out, and leave those beautiful black women for me. I would not be so pissed and neither would you guys.

Ving Rocks.

@kem: me wishes they would come out too...at least we would really know what we were dealing with ...

It is a major problem within the African American Community. If you get a chance take a look at this months Ebony with Singer Chris Brown on the cover. My girlfriend picked it up and I could not help but read the article titled : The other big question. It is something you should take look at. If you have not already.

Also on the personal side of things. These dudes has ruined plenty of good women this way and need to open up. Our communities need to accept it, just to take that monster out of the closet so that he does not hide any longer.

On another note I just wanted to say that I love your blog. Keep up the good work. The way that you manage it is superb.

@kem: thanks for the info; I'll take a look at it. Also, thanks for the compliment--I really appreciate you being here too! :-)
