I don't even know where to start. "N-Secure" is so awful that you find yourself getting angry with everybody and everything that had anything to do with this "hot, period-panty mess" (c. nOvaslim). Have you ever felt yourself getting pissed off that the film you're watching was ever made in the first place? I know I haven't before this; the closest I've gotten was all of those Roc/Damon Dash movies starring Beanie Sigel and Memphis Bleek that I can't even remember the names of now. N-Secure makes those films look like Steven Soderbergh flicks, straight up.
I can't even give this "movie" a review, cause there is no real plot or point. I implore you never to come near this one...kinda look upon it like venturing near Dracula's coffin at sunset. But if you don't heed my very sage advice, know that I am about to give away some "spoilers" (though I really don't think it will make a bit of difference in your experience watching it). Here is my impression of the "movie" in bullet-points, cause this sh*t left me too spent to write full-on thoughtful paragraphs:
* First of all, how do you cast someone in the lead that looks exactly like Professor Oglevee from "The Parkers"? He even had his same...ummm...."zest" ifyaknowwhatimean. That distracted me for most of the "movie". Why not get the real thing? I'm sure he would have worked for the same salary as dude whose name I do not know and have no desire to look up.
* This "movie" is about a man who is so obsessed in his love relationships that he will practically beat down a woman if she is 4 minutes late (yes, literally), uses a CSI type blacklight to check for any stains on the sheets, put a GPS tracking system on his girl's car, goes ballistic over a curling iron burn cause he thinks it's a hickey, and makes his woman sign a contract that she will not have any girlfriends and return his calls within 1 minute. Yet no woman wants to leave him because of his high life in material things. WTF is this "movie" trying to say?
* I don't really know anything about "Nephew Tommy", but I do know he's in the running to be this century's Mantan Moreland. Can we have one more cue for bugged-out eye reaction, pretty please?
* Can somebody please explain to me why Thelma from "Good Times" has a three minute throwaway cameo in this "movie"? Is she related to one of the volunteer P.A.'s or something?
* Imma need Essence Atkins to show us that she has more range beyond what she has shown us on "Half And Half". I love her, but dang!
* I believe that this is the first time since "The Cosby Show" that I've seen Tempestt Bledsoe's hair looking decent, though 90% isn't really hers ifyaknaowwhatimean. Sadly, her acting hasn't improved even a microdot.
* Ditto for Elise Neal.
* Where the heck did they get the music from in this "movie"? It makes a Lifetime movie soundtrack sound like high-concept art. I mean strictly "As The World Turns" circa 1968.
* Why is Lamann Rucker (the only male eye-candy) given top billing, only to be bumped off in the first 15 minutes?
To sum up everything, this "movie" is about an unreasonable man who goes through extraordinary and quite unrealistic lengths to keep a leash on his woman. That's it. No reason is ever given for this, except that he had a controlling father...I would like to think it takes a little more than that to turn someone into a psychopath, but who am I to know? Obviously the writers of this "movie" know more than we do. A lot more, apparently, as nothing in this script or anything else makes any sense...including why this "movie" was made in the first place and why anybody even bothered to show the f*ck up.

2 Snaps Up In A "Z" Formation....
I know I missed "Old School Music Friday", but for the life of me I could not think of one girl group I cared enough to post about, the subject of this week's meme.
Instead, I present to you a Soul Train clip I found on Wonderman's blog. It is definitely NOT the Soul Train that I remember....to get the full effect in all it's glory, please watch with the sound muted and turned off, and focus on the men. Straight fever beginning at 0:45!

Terrence Watch! Part 18
It appears the raging Lothario we've all come to know as Terrence Howard is off the market! (At least for the minute.) The actor has set his eyes on aspiring actress Leasi Andrews, an Angelina Jolie-a-like with a pout that drives men wild.
The Iron Man star flew the bombshell to Ischia, Italy, along with his three children earlier this month to attend a film festival. "Leasi was over the moon when he invited her," said a source close to the duo. Imagine how she felt when Howard climbed up on a local bar's stage and began serenading her. (Howard's debut album is released on September 2.)
"He was telling Leasi how much he loved her, and how beautiful she was. He even asked her to marry him," said a witness. But the bombshell has her reservations, and perhaps rightly so. We've watched Howard eye-fuck a stunning Gwyneth Paltrow at an Iron Man screening, going so far to actually lick his lips and utter "Damnnnn," right to her face. And we were there at another fete when he practically forced his number on a 19-year-old actress, quipping, "I know how to make things happen," before winking like a scumbag.
"Leasi knows he's a flirt. And she's playing this cautiously," said a friend of the lass. Howard is rumored to have given her a ring for her recent birthday, over July 4th, but the stunning gal is being tight-lipped about what the band symbolizes. Andrews was previously dating Lawrence Bender, producer of An Inconvenient Truth, with whom she had a child.
From IW: LMAO that they are taking this "romance" seriously. His track record is pretty dismal--you hear about some chick exactly once with him, and never hear about her again in association. My take? Come on out of that deep, dark closet, Terrence, where it also seems like you get your hair cut.

Random Movie News....
And I mean hecka random. Sergio sent me these tidbits last week, but I've been in slack mode. You might have seen these movie announcements somewhere else, but for those who haven't here they are:
First up, from AOL:
Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment's remake of 'The Incredible Shrinking Man.' Brian Grazer is producing the project, which has Eddie Murphy attached to star.
The Hollywood Reporter states that an updated version of the best-selling novel and 1957 sci-fi classic starring Grant Williams, 'Man' is taking the comedic approach to the fantastical material, telling the story of a famous Las Vegas magician who is put under a spell that causes him to shrink. He must find a way to reverse the spell before he gets so small that he 'disappears.'
Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant penned the most recent draft of the screenplay for the project, which had previously seen Pete Segal and Keenen Ivory Wayans in the director's chair.
From IW: Dang, even Keenan Wayans moved on from this mess? Eddie is solidifying his morph process into Jerry Lewis.
Next is a film that might be awesome if anyone else was attached to star. From Variety: Halle Berry will star in and produce psychological drama "Frankie and Alice" for indie shingle Access Motion Pictures in association with Reality Pictures in Motion.
Story follows a young woman struggling with multiple personality disorder and torn between who she is and a racist Caucasian alter-personality that preys upon her mind. No production start date has been set.
"Frankie and Alice" is the second independent production for Toronto-based Access Motion Pictures, which recently completed "Phantom Punch," a Sonny Liston biopic starring Ving Rhames and directed by Robert Townsend.
From IW: If only Angela Bassett or....anyone else could do this role. *sigh* Never mind....You probably heard this one. Keshia Knight Pulliam is gonna play a prostitute in "Madea Goes To Jail". Everyone seems to be up in arms over this, but I'm sure ol' girl has bills to pay, and what else have we seen her in lately? Besides, truth be told, if you read the gossip blogs she is waaay past Rudy on the Cosby show.
And speeding in on the "Just Why?" train and narrowly missing one of my "WTF Volumes" is this...from Yahoo:
Don Cornelius told Reuters that he has teamed up with Warner Bros. Pictures to develop a buddy comedy that he hopes will spawn multiple sequels.
The project, currently called "Soul Train: The Movie," revolves around two male dancers on the show who get into "a lot of good stuff and some bad stuff as well," said Cornelius, who will serve as a producer.
It features "lots of music, lots of comedy," he added, as well as "a little bit of violence." He also promised it would be "more than slightly sensual."
"'Soul Train' has always been about sexuality," Cornelius said. "It's almost never been about guys, and almost always about girls. It's what has kept us afloat for these three decades or so."
By the way, the picture above is of some of the original "Soul Trainers". Come to think of it, those dudes look as zesty as that story idea sounds...
And finally, thanks to Villager for bestowing on me the "E For Excellence Award" for my blog. It is wonderful to be recognized amongst your peers, and with the work he does over at Electronic Village ....it makes me proud that he took the time to recognize me and mine. Check him out when you have a chance---he always has very important and relevant information about our folkses and our community. He is building something over there that we can all be proud of.

Really?
‘I’m trying to be careful how I say this without inciting this person, but I have a stalker,’ he begins. ‘This person sends several hundred emails a day to my office and has planned our wedding and bought rings and such. She has showed up at my house several times. What’s crazy is I’ve never met this woman nor have I even responded to her emails. I’ve had to increase the guards at my house as well as travel with body guards and I hate that. I hate to have big guys following me around.’

Terrence Watch! Part #14
“Sometimes men are drawn to each other and don’t know how to deal with that. So they think, ‘I must be gay!’ But we hide from the quality that is most prolific in human beings, to express love. God is love. And we remain in his image. Only one other angel is made in his image, and he became Jesus on this earth, his only begotten son. So why is it that we run from love? Why can’t men look at each other in the eye with honesty?”
From IW: Ummmm.....wow. Even I can't touch that one. But there's enough zest there for five oranges ifyaknowwhatimean.
spotted on my homies's blog that's not hott!

Do I Need To Start An Eddie Watch?
“I was very shocked and disappointed to hear of Johnny Gill’s false spin on the chain of events surrounding our wedding. His outrageous lies were clearly a very desperate and pathetic attempt to clean up his reputation at my expense. I would appreciate it if Mr. Gill would refrain from continuing to spread false gossip and lies to the public, and allow everyone involved to move on with their lives. We all know the real truth.”

Interesting.
“The families hated each other from the beginning,” a close family friend told The Enquirer. “There were actual screaming matches between relatives.” And it didn’t take long before both Eddie and Tracey were knee-deep in the fray. “Eddie told Tracey that she and her family should stop with the superior attitude, and she fired back criticizing his kin for being too ‘ghetto,’” continued the friend. “Eddie bit his lip thought the entire ceremony - he was steaming about the low blow.
[From the National Enquirer, print edition Feb. 4, 2008]
The Enquirer also says the real problem was Tracey’s money-grubbing family.
“The entire wedding was a fiasco, and it brought to light just how incompatible Tracey and Eddie really are.” Things went from bad to worse after the ceremony, when Tracey and her family members seemed more interested in striking business deals than the wedding, says an insider. “Her mother was pressuring Eddie to buy a new multimillion-dollar Malibu mansion with her as the Realtor - so she’d get the whopping commission. “Then her brother, who’s [sic] a rep for a watch company, put on a full-court press to get Eddie to serve as spokesman for his line.”
[From the National Enquirer, print edition Feb. 4, 2008]
“Everyone in Tracey’s family, including Tracey, seemed to be trying to work a deal around the wedding and Eddie’s celebrity. And he saw greed instead of love,” said the insider, and eyewitness. “Tracey’s brother Michael was by far the worst of the group. He’d obviously cut a bunch of deals on the side. For instance, the bridesmaids were a walking advertisement for Jimmy Choo shoes. Michael was ordering the wedding photographer to make sure he got all the trademark clothing in the shots. And he was coaching the guests on how to pose in photos. Michael was saying: ‘The Choos! Remember to get the Jimmy Choos in the pictures or else we won’t get our free shopping spree!’” That was the final straw for Eddie.
[From the National Enquirer, print edition Feb. 4, 2008]
[celebitchy] That sounds like a pretty contrived quote. “Remember to get the Jimmy Choos in the pictures or else we won’t get our free shopping spree!’” Who talks like that? I’m going to assume it’s paraphrased. Unless Michael was saying it in jest. Seriously, if that’s true it’s super tacky. The story is pretty biased towards Eddie Murphy, so it should all be taken with a gain of salt. Murphy has long been reported to be a domineering control freak, so I find it kind of hard to believe that he’s the innocent victim in all this. It sounds like he and Tracey were definitely a bad match. In the scheme of things, it sounds like they really narrowly avoided a big disaster. How much closer can you get than marrying the wrong person but not making it legal?

TERRENCE WATCH!-part VIII
Of course, you know my one-and-only is the only one that could wake this sleeping beauty out of her mini-vacation from the blogosphere...welcome back Terrence and IW!
I saw this from the New York Daily News:
Terrence Howard will make his Great White Way debut in February as Brick in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
"It's confirmed. We're there," the show's producer, Stephen Byrd, told me Tuesday. "Terrence and I were together last week; he's on board."
Other stellar names strongly tipped for the African-American production of Tennessee Williams' classic play include Phylicia Rashad, Giancarlo Esposito and James Earl Jones as Big Daddy.
Sources says the plum role of Maggie the Cat - immortalized by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1958 film version opposite Paul Newman - is coming down to either Anika Noni Rose or Kerry Washington. The play will open at the Broadhurst Theatre, after three weeks of previews, on March 6.
Now let's see whether director Debbie Allen makes Brick gay, or fudges it like in the movie!
From IW: That will be the bomb cast to watch, and I love seeing plays on Broadway...the big name black productions are always the hot hot hot tickets...guess I'll be going to NY in February or March. Unfortunately, they'll probably get Kerry Washington to play Maggie the Cat, tho I feel Anika Noni Rose would fit the role and what it entails much, much better. And I love Debbie Allen, but she can sometimes spread enough corn around to feed Somalia.
As for Terrence, some wonder if he can handle Broadway...but as I remember it, Brick was a monumentally self-centered, closeted homosexual knucklehead with a deep seated hatred of himself and women. In other words, Terrence may be getting his first Tony award soon, no problem...kudos!

TERRENCE WATCH!-part seven
Howard: No, that was a stand-in. I am much better endowed! Or it was a very cold day.
Q: How did you ease into that?
Howard: I didn’t ease into that. My friend Jim Sheridan was sitting there, struggling for two hours with a scene that he wanted. We tried to do it with coverings and all that and it was not a part of his vision. It was hurting him. I saw him sitting at the monitor just rubbing his head. I went to Jim and – I guess I should have been smarter and shouldn’t have done it.
I went to Jim and I said, ‘Can we do one more?’ He said, ‘I don’t know if it’s going to make a difference.’ I said, ‘You know what?’ I took my drawers off and I turned to 50 and I said, ‘This is us. This is who we are.’
He said, ‘Nigger, fuck you! I am not there. They ain’t gonna put a poster of you up. Me they gonna freeze frame and put a poster up and say, Look at 50’s bitch ass!’ I said, ‘Just try it. Jim really needs it.’ And he said, fuck it, took his drawers off, jumped right in. The other five people in the scene did it too, and then you saw Jim all excited again. He was all alive. I was happy.

TERRENCE WATCH!-part deux
Spywitnesses at Spotlight Live in Times Square Tuesday say the actor tried to turn up the heat with Gabrielle Union, but she wouldn’t simmer. Maybe that’s because she’s already with the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade, not to mention past liaisons with Derek Jeter and Howard’s “Crash” co-star Ludacris. She rocked as Diddy took the stage at the industry’s weekly karaoke confab in the high-tech club.
On second thought, T.P. probably likes women who don’t like him, just because they won’t try to have sex with him and break his celibacy vow. I just figured it all out!

Plenty Of Zest For Everyone This Weekend...
Tangy Terrence Howard was in two films over the weekend "The Hunting Party" with Richard Gere, and "The Brave Ones" with Jodie Foster. Since they're not black cinema, and this blog was created specifically for that, I won't get into the box office, etc., but if anyone has seen either, please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Tangy Terrence's New Movie
Howard will play a veteran street-fighting coach who mentors Tatum's character, a young man who had been scraping up a living scalping tickets in Gotham (Daily Variety, Aug. 3).
Shooting will begin on location in NYC in September.
Next up for Howard is "The Brave One," "The Hunting Party" and "Iron Man."

Zestfully Clean
MK: That means he's gay.
On his relationship philosophy:
"If a relationship is built on sexuality, it won't last long. Now I'm completely chaste through a relationship unless I get married. I don't believe in premarital sex. It enabled me to date three or four women at the same time, because as long as I wasn't having sex with them, I could always just walk away. There were some [past girlfriends] who pushed for sex, and sometimes they won. Afterward, I would feel unclean, like I'd compromised my own values. So I would have to let them go because they didn't help me to be a stronger person."
MK: Ok, this means he's gay, but really wants to make the straight thing work.
On his deal-breaker:
"Toilet paper - and no baby wipes - in the bathroom. If they're using dry paper, they aren't washing all of themselves. It's just unclean. So if I go in a woman's house and see the toilet paper there, I'll explain this. And if she doesn't make the adjustment to baby wipes, I'll know she's not completely clean."
MK: Ok, that just means he's crazy and probably gags when he sees a little pee in the toilet. You know the type.
On his divorce:
"I was in love with her, but she was not in love with me. I can't be upset because she doesn't find me the most beautiful thing on the planet."
MK: Awww...I find you the prettiest prettiest princess Terrence! I really do. He's gay, right? What the hell kind of man wants their vaginas smelling like baby powder?
I can totally picture him during this interview too. He probably spoke really soft and only looked the journalist in the eye when he was talking. He probably had a handkerchief with him the entire time and kept wiping his hands with it. He probably went into the shower after this interview and cried while piping hot water washed away his sins.
I think I love him.
